This is a style of sheath often identified with the Iroquois. This style of sheath was used by many eastern woodland people. The "Iroquois" sheath is unique. The sheath is worn under the belt or sash next to the body. The sheath is held in place by a leather flap that goes over the belt and prevents it from sliding through as you move. The pressure of the belt also holds the knife in the sheath keeping it from falling out. The sheath measures 9" x 2 1/2".
The sheath is had sewn with a heavy leather welt to keep the blade from cutting through. The beads are glass trade beads (5mm pony beads), with brass cones and horse air "scalp locks". The flap is backed with deer hide to protect the thread.

BLACK SHEATH WITH WHITE PONY BEADS
This sheath is made of heavy cowhide beaded with white pony beads. There are to horse hair "scalp locks" hung from tin cones on the bottom of the sheath. There is a heavy leather welt sewn in to protect the stitching from being cut. The sheath is of an Iroquois style but was worn by many eastern woodland peoples. The sheath is worn behind the belt with the beaded flap over the belt to keep it in place. The sheath measures 11x 3 inches. It will take a 10 inch knife blade with no trouble.

IROQUOIS TREE OF LIFE
The beadwork on this sheath is of Iroquois design. It is a repersentation of the Iroquois tree, the symbol of the Great Peace of the Iroquois. The sheath and the belt tab are lined with buckskin to protect the stitching of the beadwork. This sheath will hold a 12" blade.
